Ø Developmental-Maturist program – this approach is
based from the theory of Rousseau, Freud, Erikson and Gessell, the theorists who
emphasize the natural development of the young child. In this program, children
are considered explorers and encourage them
for creativity and self-expression.
Ø Reggio Emilio – is an educational approach focused
on preschool and primary education and was formulated by Loris Malaguzzi. The
target of the program is to make the children be practical in life and also
encourages exploration in a supportive environment.
Ø Child-Centered Curriculum – this program is the most
known curriculum used today and is based from the theorists like Rousseau,
Pestalozzi, Froebel and Dewey. The focus of the program is on the development
of the whole child; social, physical, intellectual, linguistic and emotional.
Horace
Mann once said, “Education alone can conduct
us to that enjoyment which is, at once, best in quality and infinite in
quantity.” Thus, in a high-quality
early childhood establishments, friendly and enjoyable environment must be
considered a high priority of needs because this is where the children stay
most of the time and is considered their second home, a place where they feel
secure and protected. In like manner, it must be ascertained that the programs
and planned activities are appropriate for the child's age and level of learning capacity. Educators must know the
children’s individual differences and adjust accordingly in order to meet the
needs of every child in the group. They must also provide equipment and materials to each child in each activity to cater
their learning process. Meanwhile, the educator must facilitate and
observe them closely throughout the activity to ensure that each objective is
achieved and they are safe.
